In order to create a device for monitoring varistors which are integrated in a circuit, especially varistors in the form of wafers, which device interrupts the current flow through the varistor in the event of a defect in said varistor, it is proposed that an element (8) be arranged on at least one wafer side of each varistor (3), the volume of which element (8) increases in the event of the varistor (3) being unacceptably heated, that a switch (2) which is connected in the circuit of the varistor (3) is allocated to said element (8), and that the increase in volume corresponds to the switching movement for opening the switch (2). <IMAGE>
