A diaphragm pump (1) for delivering preferably gases, in particular hot flue gases, has a pump head (4) made preferably of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). In order to prevent power losses and damage due to the substantial thermal expansion of the PTFE material, the pump head (4) is provided, roughly parallel to the axis of motion (40) of the valve and diaphragm, with tensioning elements (30) that apply a force to the pump head (4) opposite to its thermal axial expansion. Deformation of the pump head (4) in the transverse direction is restricted by a supporting sleeve (33) around the outer casing of the pump head (36). In this way, a pump head (4) consisting at least mainly of PTFE, can deliver hot media, especially hot gases, without these having to be cooled first. <IMAGE>
