Colour CRT shadow mask - mounted by shock and vibration resistant assembly

The colour selection electrode (10) is a thin metal plate mounted inside the tube just behind the phosphor coated inside wall (20,8) of the image window (1). The plate has a regular pattern of slots (11) pierced through it to allow the beams from the three electron guns to reach the phosphors. At the four corners of the screen, metal pins are forced into the inside face of the tube wall by thermocompression. The metal plate (10) is supported along each edge by frame strips (13). These strips are attached at the corners to support brackets (12). Each support bracket has a flat sprung element (14) spot-welded to it. In the elements are holes (18) which fit over the pin heads (17) and are secured by laser welding. The corner support brackets also have holes (24) for fixing (22) the conical inner screening cap (19).
