PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as a remedy for circulatory diseases by a few processes inexpensively, in high yield and in good selectivity, by reacting an alkanoyloxymethyl alkyl ketone derivative with an amine and hydrolyzing. CONSTITUTION:A novel 1-(4-alkanoyloxyphenyl)-1-alkanoyloxymethyl alkyl ketone shown by formula I (R, R<1> and R<2> are lower alkyl) is catalytically hydrogenated with a primary amine (e.g. methylamine) in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. platinum-carbon) at 5-50 deg.C at 1-2 atm. hydrogen pressure. Then the reaction product is hydrolyzed by a conventional procedure to give the aimed compound shown by formula II (R<3> is alkyl, aralkyl or phenoxyalkyl). The compound shown by the formula I is obtained by electrolytically reducing p- oxybenzoic acid in the presence of a fatty acid anhydride. USE:Has sympathomimetic action and is useful as a remedy for orthostatic hypotension, adaptation disorder, reduction in blood pressure during surgical operation, etc., and as an vasodilator, etc. |
