PURPOSE:To enable the selective proliferation of bifidus bacteria at a low cost, by using a specific N-acyllactam compound as a proliferation agent for bacteria belonging to Bifidobacterium genus. CONSTITUTION:An N-acyllactam compound of formula (R is Cl, nitro or mercapto; n is 1 or 2) is used as a selective proliferation agent for bacteria belonging to Bifidobacterium genus, especially bifidus bacteria. it can be used in an arbitrary form according to the use, e.g. liquid, powder, etc., or can be added to a food or drink. Furthermore, it can be added to a tablet candy, fermented milk, powder, tablet, etc., containing bifidus bacteria. |
