An auxiliary track is recorded on the data storage disc (1) with the aid of an additional read/write head (4'). When scanning the auxiliary track, position signals (83) are generated in dependence on the track position in the circumferential direction of the data storage disc and are buffer-stored. This scanning operation is repeated several times and average values of the position signals are thereby obtained for the individual track positions, which are stored. For recording circular tracks with the aid of the write head (4) on the data storage disc (1), at the same the auxiliary track is scanned. The corresponding current position signals and the associated stored average values are used to form difference signals, which serve as track-deviation signals for fine correction of the momentary radial position of the write head (4). <IMAGE>
