The method involves parenterally administering the substrate composition as an aqueous solution to substantially lower plasma cholesterol and substantially reverse arterial plaque deposition and degenerative changes associated with atherosclerosis. The substrate compositions include mixtures of biologically active levorotatory amino acids as the antiatherosclerotic agent.
