A method of joining a first thermoplastics component 1 with a tapering spigot 4 to a second component 2 with a socket 4' in which the spigot 4 locates comprises providing an inductively heatable openwork material 7 between the spigot and the socket, and then inductively heating this openwork material, e.g. by a coil 8. The inductive heating causes fusion of the thermoplastics material at the joint faces of the two components. The fused plastics enters the interstices of the openwork material, and, after solidification, provides a strong joint between the two components. <IMAGE> |
