High-pressure discharge lamp and a method for operation

In order to improve the starting properties of a metal-halide high-pressure discharge lamp (1), said lamp is provided with a heating device (8) which consists of an electrical resistance alloy and is applied to the discharge vessel (2) by plasma spraying. The heating device (8) is constructed as a strip which is approximately in the form of a loop, has a thickness of approximately 50 mu m and has a width of approximately 100 mu m. The ends of the heating device (8) are constructed as contact surfaces (9) via which the heating current is supplied when the lamp (1) is disconnected, the heating device (8) being operated by means of a dedicated voltage source, which differs from the supply voltage of the lamp (1).
