In the process according to the invention for producing supergrade petrol from a hydrocarbon fraction which contains four carbon atoms and originates from a catalytic reformer or cracker, the batch is subjected to a dehydrogenation reaction of a zone 7, the efflux taken off from the zone 7 is conducted into a zone 10 for the selective oligomerisation of the isobutene; the mixture obtained at the outlet of the zone 10 is fractionated into: - a hydrogen-containing light gas which is taken off from column 12 and partly recycled to zone 7, - a propane-containing gas mixture which is taken off from column 17, - a supergrade petrol fraction which is taken off from column 20 through line 21 and fed to the supergrade petrol collection vessel 22 and - a fraction containing n-butane, isobutane and n-butenes which is passed to an alkylation zone 24 via line 23. The efflux taken off from the zone 24 is fractionated in column 27 into an n-butane/isobutane fraction, which is passed into the zone 7 through line 28, and an alkylate, which represents a supergrade petrol fraction, which is fed through line 30 to the supergrade petrol collection vessel 22. A mixture of the two fractions fed to the supergrade petrol collection vessel is obtained through line 31, which mixture represents the sought-after supergrade petrol. <IMAGE>
