PURPOSE:To remarkably lowly suppress a coupling loss of light by executing optical coupling extending from a light emitting element to an optical fiber, by an optical waveguide member in which the light emitting element side has been formed to a columnar surface. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element (for instance, a semiconductor laser) 1, an optical waveguide member 2 and an optical fiber 3 are placed on the same optical axis L. One end face of a stripe part for forming an oscillation area of the light emitting element 1 constitutes a light emitting end face 5, and this end face 5 is opposed at a prescribed interval to the tip of the first end face (light incident end face) 6 of the optical waveguide member 2. Also, the light emitting end face 5 is finished to a columnar surface centering around an axis A is the vertical direction being orthogonal to the optical axis L. On the other hand, the second end face (light emitting end face) 7 of the optical waveguide member 2 is finished to a plane being orthogonal to the optical axis L, and abuts on a light incident end face 8 of the optical fiber 3, which has been finished to a plane in the same way. In this case, the optical waveguide member 2 and the optical fiber 3 have cores 9, 10 in the center parts, respectively, and they are positioned on the optical axis L passing through the light emitting end face 5 from the stripe part 4 of the light emitting element 1. |
