<p>For removing swarf from around the cutting head(s), of a machine tool, a suction hood (14) is provided with a skirt (28) depending from the perimeter of the hood to enclose the sides of a space below the hood, the skirt comprising a layer of solid resilient material and a curtain of bristles extending below the solid resilient layer. The hood skirt has a liftable section. A system supporting the hood comprises rigid ducting sections that are able to swing about vertical axes and a vertical ducting section that includes a telescopic joint.
