Programmable self-contained device 1 for dispensing liquid medicinal substances in the body of a patient over several days with pre-established flow rates and according to pre-established sequences, comprising: a peristaltic pump 2 actuated by an electric geared motor unit 5, the output of the pump being connectable 4 to a catheter introduced into the body of a patient; a liquid reservoir 3 connected to the input of the pump 2; an electronic unit 19 for controlling the geared motor unit associated with memory means 13 containing the data necessary for the pump to operate with the pre-established flow rates and according to the pre-established sequences; and a self-contained electrical supply unit; the device being of size and shape such as to have a weight and a volume which are sufficiently small for them to be worn by the patient whilst allowing him to move and exercise completely freely. <IMAGE>
