The invention relates to a device for determining the deformation of a specimen in mechanical fracture and creep tests by converting the relative movement between various measurement points on the specimen into an electrical variable by means of a supporting structure (2) which rests on a reference plane (1) and on which the stressed specimen (3) is braced against the test force (5) by means of thrust rollers (4). The deflection is detected at three measurement points (9, 12, 15) on the specimen (3). Independently of all the deformations in the apparatus, the relative displacement of the specimen centre (9) with respect to the mean value of the displacements of the sensing elements (17, 18) is advantageously determined with the device according to the invention using only one displacement transducer (7). <IMAGE>
