In an electromagnetically powered pump for liquid and gaseous media, a toroidal pipe is provided with at least one piston of magnetisable material located inside the pipe so it can slide along the pipe and be sealed; the pipe has an inlet and an outlet and a number of solenoids distributed evenly over it, and an electrical control unit is provided, with which voltage can be applied to the individual solenoids one after the other, the arrangement is such that the pipe is made of a nonmagnetisable material, and that an outlet for the medium to be pumped is provided on the outer circumference of the pipe, and an inlet for the medium to be pumped is provided opposite it on the inner circumference of the pipe.
