PURPOSE:To form an alpha-alumina surface layer excellent in adhesion to gamma-alumina by vapor-depositing aluminum on a stock consisting of ferrite-based stainless steel alloy contg. aluminum before molding the stock into a flat sheet and a corrugated sheet. CONSTITUTION:A stock 10 is made by cold-rolling ferrite-based stainless steel alloy contg. Al and while feeding the stock 10 to a winding roll 12 from a roll 11 wound with this stock 10, Al is vapor-deposited on the surface of the stock 10 by a vacuum depositing method. Then after molding the stock 10 into a corrugated sheet 5 and a flat sheet 6, both sheets 5, 6 are overlapped and furthermore these are wound into multi-layers, and a catalytic carrier 7 made of metal is formed by welding both sheets. Then after heating the carrier 7 and oxidizing vapor-deposited Al to form alpha-alumina whiskers, gamma-alumina is coated between the corrugated sheet 5 and the flat sheet 6. |
