PURPOSE:To attain recording or reproduction with high density, by reproducing a circular arc shaped recording locus formed on the recording medium of a rotary optical head being rotated setting an axis vertical to the recording plane of a tape shape, or a sheet shape, or a plate shape optical recording medium, as a rotary shaft, in a state without being brought into contact in order. CONSTITUTION:In the optical recording medium 4, a medium suitable for optical recording such as a material having phase change by heating, or the optical recording medium in which Curie point recording is utilized, is formed in a thin film shape on a tape, or a sheet. At time of recording, a laser light source 5 is modulated by a signal, and the circular arc shaped recording locus 13 is formed sequentially on the recording medium. At time of reproduction, the power of the laser light source 5 is weakened less than the power in a recording time, and traces on the recording locus through a similar path. At this time, the level, or the polarizing plane of reflected light from the recording medium, is varied, and the reflected light passes through a half mirror 7, and a lens 11, and a reproducing signal can be taken out by a photodetector 12. In this way, since the recording plane can be fed without being brought into contact even with a tape guide, deterioration in the recording plane is prevented from occurring, and a device can endure in repeated use for a long time. |
