The invention relates to a method for determining any liquids which occur independently of their chemical-physical composition, preferably at the overflow of centrifugal separators. The aim of the invention is to obtain a rapid, dynamic evaluation of the presence of any liquid, independently of temperature, material composition, foam formation, chemical cleaning agents, as well as machine vibrations and to signal the presence of the liquid but not to receive any indication in the case of small liquid quantities, such as spray. This is achieved, in that a temperature sensor known per se is arranged at the place to be monitored, is heated directly via an actuation and evaluation unit by means of a half-wave corresponding to industrial AC current, and the rise of electrical resistance of the temperature sensor in the pulse spaces takes place with a predetermined reference resistor in an electrical actuation and evaluation unit connected downstream of the temperature sensor, the pulsed heating consequently being switched on or off with simultaneous evaluation of the pulse sequences by means of time measurement and time comparison and the value thus determined being passed as a control signal to a switching device.
