In the case of a filling device for containers, especially bottles, in the case of which the containers are subjected to pressure in excess of atmospheric pressure, and in the case of which a plurality of filling stations are provided on a rotating machine element which are in each case composed of a filling element and a standing surface for the containers which is arranged below the said element, at least one worm is provided which is situated outside the machine element, is mounted so as to be rotatable about an essentially horizontal stationary axis of rotation and is driven so as to rotate about said axis. The said worm extends, with its worm part, which encloses the rotational axis of the worm and takes the form of a conveying worm, in the preloading region of the filling device in which the containers are loaded with a pressure which is in excess of atmospheric pressure, laterally into the path of movement of the filling stations, in order to form wall sections there together with the said worm part and/or with sections of the said worm part between the filling stations, which wall sections screen the individual containers off from other containers, so that there is no need for the chamber sheets which are normally found in filling devices and are provided between adjacent filling stations.
