In order in the case of a pressure cylinder having a housing in which a piston is displaceably mounted, to incorporate a digital displacement measuring system in the interior, it is proposed to provide in the piston rod a recess for accommodating the displacement measuring system. The recess extends in the axial direction in this piston rod, starting from an end opposite the end piece. It is also proposed that one element of the displacement measuring system comprises a sensor having at least one magnetic head, and the other element comprises a measuring rod which can be displaced relative to the sensor and is magnetised in the longitudinal direction of the measuring rod in an alternating fashion in successive sections.
