PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium which enables optical writing of information with a small-type light-weight semiconductor laser, by providing the optical recording medium with a recording layer which comprises a layer comprising a diacetylene derivative compound and a layer comprising a square arylium dye, in a laminated form. CONSTITUTION:A layer 3 comprising a square arylium dye and a layer 4 comprising a diacetylene derivative (DA) compound are sequentially provided on a base 1 to constitute a recording layer 2. The order in which the layer 3 and the layer 4 are provided is so set that the layer 4 comprising the DA compound is provided on the face side of the recording layer 2. The film thickness of each of the layers 3 and 4 is suitably about 300Angstrom -1mum. The base 1 for this optical recording medium may be constituted of a glass, a plastic plate, a plastic film, a paper, a metal or the like. When the recording medium is irradiated at predetermined positions with a semiconductor laser beam 6 of a wavelength of 800-900nm which is turned ON and OFF, the square arylium dye in the layer 3 absorbs the laser beam 6 to generate heat, and the heat is transmitted to the polyacetylene derivative compound in the layer 4, whereby a color change to red is brought about, resulting in optical recording through the color change at record parts 7 on the recording layer according to input information. |
