PURPOSE:To reduce the fluctuation of the magnetic characteristics by grinding the permanent magnet alloy prior to the melting treatment in the manufacture of a rare earth permanent magnet powder comprising a process for melting and quenching the permanent magnet alloy containing a rare earth element and a process for grinding said permanent magnel alloy into a powder. CONSTITUTION:A material 1, obtained by grinding a rare earth permanent magnet alloy ingot so that the particle diameter is 10mm or less, is molten in a heat treatment furnace 2 capable of heating in an oxygen-free atmosphere and quenched. By making it into a powder state in this way, its superficial area dramatically increases, hence the cooling speed after the melting treatment faster, and at the same time it can uniformly be cooled, whereby a uniform metal phase appears. If the metal phase to appear is uniform, the magnetic characteristics do not fluctuate. |
