PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance in good yield at a low cost, by reacting allyl chlorides with a cumene hydroperoxide-containing solution obtained by oxidizing cumene in the absence of other solvents in the presence of silica catalyst carrying a Ti compound. CONSTITUTION:Allyl chlorides and a cumene hydroperoxide (CHP)-containing solution obtained by oxidizing cumene in an amount of the former in excess, preferably in a molar amount of >=10 times based on the latter are used and reacted in the absence of other solvents in the presence of silica catalyst carrying a Ti compound at 50-150 deg.C to afford epichlorohydrins. A solution in a concentration of 10-90wt% expressed in terms of CHP obtained from an oxidization processes of the cumene in production plants for phenol or the next concentration processes of CHP is used as the above-mentioned CHP-containing solution. EFFECT:The aimed substance and unreacted allyl chloride as low-boiling substances and dimethylphenylcarbinol and unreacted cumene as high-boiling substances are obtained from the reaction mass. |
