The invention relates to a method for controlling processing machines, in particular controlling the working speed, in which a continual determination of the actual production is performed by sensors in the region of the packaging machine. It is the aim of the invention to increase the productivity of processing machines. The invention is based on the object of determining the maximum possible productivity of a processing machine. The object is achieved, according to the invention, by continuously determining the loading of the drive motor, forming from this value a loading equivalent and, moreover, analysing the relationship between the setting value of the angle of rotation and the dosed substance, determining the minimum dosing time from the loading equivalent, the setting value of the angle of rotation and the permissible loading of the drive motor.
