The process entails the sludge, where appropriate after previous biological treatment, being mixed with complexing agents and enzymes, being dewatered and being mixed with solidifying aids, and is characterised in that the complexing agent is added in excess over the amount of metals contained in the raw sludge, in that a slow-acting hydraulic binder is added to the sludge before the dewatering, and in that the heavy metals are removed from the turbid water resulting from the dewatering.
