<p>A feeding apparatus (l) for feeding a material (8) from a material supply (7) to a further apparatus (50), particularly a packaging apparatus (50). The apparatus (l) comprises a storage buffer (23) for storing an amount of the material (8), a first feed arrangement for feeding the material (8) from the material supply (7) to the storage buffer (23), and a second feed arrangement for feeding the material (8) from the storage buffer (23) to the further apparatus (50). The storage buffer (23) comprises a plurality of movable rollers (25) and a plurality of fixed rollers (24) disposed above the movable rollers (25). The material (8) is wound alternately between the fixed and movable rollers (24, 25). The movable rollers (25) are movable toward the fixed rollers (24) by the tension in the material (8), and are movable away from the fixed rollers (24) under the influence of gravity. This enables the material (8) to be fed continuously to the further apparatus (50) during an interruption of the material supply (8). The storage buffer (23) further comprises a carriage (27) to which the movable rollers (25) are mounted, the carriage (27) being movable with the movable rollers (25). A guide arrangement (28, 29) is provided for guiding movement of the carriage (27), and the guide arrangement (28, 29) is adapted to maintain said carriage (27) in a substantially constant orientation during movement toward and away from the fixed rollers (24). This serves to maintain a substantially uniform tension in the material (8) in the storage buffer (23).</p> |
