The application relates to a fastening for attaching covering strips to motor vehicle roofs, which strips are in each case incorporated along the lateral roof frames in a recessed roof channel, can be connected to the luggage clips or the like or to a roof rail and can be clamped onto a contact surface of the roof channel by means of a plurality of screw connections which penetrate an opposing pattern of holes in the body. The invention resides in the fact that the covering strip extends in a single piece over the entire length to be covered, that, in the vicinity of each bore of the pattern of holes in the side of the covering strip facing the body, a longitudinal groove is provided which extends from a supported contact surface, is aligned with the axial direction of an assigned through-bolt and the inside dimensions of which match the dimensions of the through-bolt, a shank region of the longitudinal groove merging inside the covering strip into a head region, the inside width of which is greater than a flat-edge diameter and smaller than a pointed-edge diameter of the head of the through-bolt, which has a polygonal head and the inside height of which is greater than the height of the head of the bolt, and that the bolt head can be inserted into the head region so as to grip behind the latter.
