PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition containing carboxymethylcellulose and a polyvalent metal salt as essential components, having excellent water- absorptivity and gel properties of water-absorbed gel and free from syneresis. CONSTITUTION:A composition containing carboxymethylcellulose and a polyvalent metal salt as essential components. The carboxymethylcellulose has a substitution degree of 0.3-2.8 and a viscosity of from 500cps (as 10% aqueous solution) to 10,000cps (as 1% aqueous solution). Both components are mixed together at a ratio to satisfy the formula 1/10<n[M]/[-COOX]<10 wherein [M] is molar number of metal of the polyvalent metal salt, n is valence of metallic ion produced by the dissociation of said salt and [-COOX] is molar number of carboxyl group of the carboxymethylcellulose. |
