The harvester has a mobile frame (12) with a rotor (11) driven for movement w.r.t. it. outwardly projecting crop engaging combs (14) are mounted on the rotor. Guides cooperate with the combs to form a crop flow passage. - The rotor carries the combs upwardly and rearwardly at a front region of the harvester to detach sections of the crop and move them along the flow passage. The combs can each have at least one inclined edge for detaching required crop parts from a standing crop. Each comb also has a transverse surface for impelling the detached crop parts along the crop flow passage.
