<p>PURPOSE:To easily produced hydrogen gas as a clean and high-energy fuel at a low cost, by dispersing semiconductor powder in a mixture of water and algae mucilage and irradiating the dispersion with light. CONSTITUTION:An algae mucilage such as kappa-carrageenin, lambda-carrageenin, agar, etc., is dissolved in water and semiconductor powder (e.g. Pt-supported titanium dioxide powder, cadmium sulfide, etc.) is added and dispersed in the aqueous solution. The reaction liquid is put into a transparent reaction vessel and an inert gas such as argon is passed through the reaction liquid to remove dissolved air. The reaction liquid is irradiated with light under agitation using an ultra- high-pressure mercury lamp, halogen lamp, etc., as a light source. The produced hydrogen gas separated to the upper part of the reaction vessel is collected.</p> |
