The present invention provides an apparatus for controlling an overhead traveler crane and a method thereof, which sense the position of a worker working on a rail for an overhead traveler crane and the position of the crane in real time to prevent an accident due to a mutual collision. The apparatus for controlling an overhead traveler crane according to the present invention comprises: a position sensing unit sensing the position of the worker, who moves the rail for an overhead traveler crane, and the position of the crane; a crane driving unit driving the crane; a control unit outputting a warning signal in case the worker and the crane approach each other within a warning distance based on the position of the worker and the crane sensed by the position sensing unit and controlling the crane driving unit to restrict operation of the crane in case the worker and the crane approach each other within a danger distance; and a warning unit generating visual and auditory alarms according to the warning signal output by the control unit. |
