The objective of the present invention is to provide a chain tensioner which can supply necessary and sufficient oil at the time of restarting after a long stoppage of oil supply and can prevent noise and vibration and damage to a timing chain by properly maintaining pressure even when an excessive tensile force is generated. An oil storage chamber (123) is formed on a protruding side in front of a check valve (150) inside a plunger (120). A tensioner body (110) has an oil supply hole (114) through which a cylindrical surface portion (113) of a plunger receiving hole (111) communicates with the outside and a high-pressure discharge hole (115) through which a pressure oil chamber (101) of the plunger receiving hole (111) communicates with the outside. A relief valve (160), which is opened by high pressure, is provided in the pressure oil chamber (101) of the high-pressure discharge hole (115). |
