摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled element having an enlarged tilt angle of the liquid crystal molecule, thereby improving transmissivity at a time of opening a shutter of a picture element, and capable of preventing a flicker of an image plane at a time of multiplexing driving, by forming a specific orientation controlling film on at least one of a pair of substrates which are disposed to parallel with each other. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 12a and 12b are mounted on an upper substrate 11a and an lower substrate 11b which are disposed to parallel with each other respectively, and the coated films 14a and 14b of a polymer having a repeated structural unit shown by the formula are mounted on the upper and lower substrates respectively. In the formula, R1 is hydrogen or halogen atom, alkyl or cyano group, R2 is halogen atom, alkyl or cyano group. The polymer is exemplified by polypropylene, polybutene-1, polyisobutene-1, and poly-4-methyl pentene-1, etc. The uniaxially oriented axis is given to the parallel films 14a and 14b by rubbing it respectively. The bistable ferroelectric liquid crystal 13 composed of the Sm* type liquid crystal is filled the space between the parallel substrates 11a and 11b and the titled element having >=18 deg. tilt angle is obtd.</p>
