PURPOSE:To manufacture safely and efficiently small-sized molded dry ice free from cracks, etc. by forcing granular dry ice as starting material into molding cavities bored in the curved surface of a roll press and kept at a suitable temp. and by molding the dry ice. CONSTITUTION:Powdered or granular dry ice as starting material is fed from a storage hopper 1 to a roll press 3 with a screw feeder 2. The press 3 is composed of a pair of drums having opposite molding cavities 3a with a prescribed size and a prescribed shape bored in the cruved surface, and the pressing pressure between the drums can be changed. Each of the drums has a built-in heating means, and the inner walls of the molding cavities are kept at >=-40 deg.C, desirably about -10--25 deg.C. The grain size of the dry ice as starting material is <=1/2 time that of the resulting molded product, and an excessively small grain size is not desirable. The pressure between the drums of the press 3 is desirably adjusted so as to apply about 50-500kg/cm<2> pressure to the molding surfaces.
