PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium wherein the stability of a recording state is well and erasing sensitivity is good, by forming a recording layer comprising an alloy generating phase transformation between a quasi- crystal and a crystal on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:Phase transformation from a crystal to a quasi-crystal can be realized by heating due to light energy, for example, due to the irradiation of semiconductive laser beam and the quenching action thereafter of an alloy itself due to heat conduction and a quasi-crystal phase is locally formed to a recording layer comprising only the crystal to make it possible to record information. As the alloy generating phase transformation between the quasi- crystal and the crystal, there are an aluminum alloy containing at least one of manganese, chromium, vanadium, molybdenum, iron, silicon and zinc and comprising the remainder of aluminum and a titanium alloy containing at least one of nickel and vanadium and comprising the remainder of titanium and a recording layer 2 can be constituted by either one of said alloys. |
