PURPOSE:To stabilize the display of focus detection area in a finder by setting plural focus detection zones corresponding to plural focus detection areas on a photodetecting means such as CCD line sensor, etc. to control the focus detection operation. CONSTITUTION:First and the second focus detection zones corresponding to a first and a second focus detection areas different in size are set in a CCD line sensor 10 or others of an optical system 1 for photographing and focus detection, by a microprocessor 9 using a data in a graphic ROM 7. First, in case the detection of focus comes to improssible as a result of detecting the focus in the first focus detection zone because of the absence of an object, the detection zone is automatically changed over, and in case the second detection also results in the impossibility, the sequence returns to the first focus detection zone, and the same action is repeated. In such a case, a focus detection area display means consisting of the graphic ROM 7 and an adding circuit 8 displays, first, a display graphic corresponding to the first focus detection zone in a finder cathode-ray tube, however, after the zone is changed over to the second zone, the display is executed only when the focus detection is possible in the first focus detection zone. In such a way, the display of the focus detection area in the finder is stabilizied. |
