A soil-loosening appliance has at least one loosening implement (2), penetrating into the soil (B), for driving under and lifting, without turning, the soil layer determined by the depth of penetration. In order to improve the loosening effect, avoid endangering the ecological structure of the soil and allow a working-in of plant residues or the like which is appropriate for rotting purposes, the loosening implement (2) is formed by a rotor (3) which is mounted rotatably and drivably about an axis inclined to the horizontal and lying preferably in a transverse plane relative to the direction of travel and which consists of a hub (3a) and of radial arms (3b) set with the effect of producing ascending working surfaces (5). A coaxial and likewise rotatably and drivably mounted tine wheel (4) can be arranged at a distance above the rotor (3). <IMAGE>
