PURPOSE:To enhance scratch resistance, water resistance, and photographic characteristics, such as fog resistance, of a semiproduct, and to prevent fluctuation of the photographic characteristics in the lateral and longitudinal directions by drying water contained in an amount of <=300wt% of the average dried weight basis with air controlled in specified conditions and further, heat treating it with a specified atmosphere of air. CONSTITUTION:At least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer applied to a support and containing water in an amount of <=300wt% of the average dry weight basis is dried with the air controlled to a wet bulb temperature of 10-25 deg.C and a relative humidity of 35-60%, and further, heat treated with the air having a dry bulb temperature of 30-50 deg.C and a relative humidity of 40-60%. This heat treatment can be carried out in the wide range of drying time length, from several hours to several days in the case of drying the semiproduct in a so-called roll state, after coating with the photographic sensitive material and drying it, and it is preferred to dry it for 5-10 days in order to obtain sufficiently high and stable physical properties of the hard film, especially, in the case of the roll state, thus permitting scratch resistance, water resistance, and photographic characteristics, such as fog resistance, of the roll state semiproduct to be enhanced, and fluctuation of the photographic characteristics, especially, in the lateral and longitudinal directions to be prevented. |
