In a method for the production of a groove milling cutter for wood, plastic or similar materials from a rotationally symmetrical base body (1), two mutually opposite flutes (4A, 4B) are milled in or ground in from the front end of the milled part to be formed from the base body. In a first operation, a first flute (4A) with a cutting edge (12A) is ground into the base body (1) at a curved section (10) of a profile-grinding wheel (2). At the same time, by means of a straight section (14), the cutting back (15B) of the second cutting edge (12B) still to be formed is sharpened. During this procedure, the base body (1) is also at the same time continuously turned about its longitudinal axis (3) as the profile-grinding wheel (2) is advanced. In a second operation, the second flute (4B) with the second cutting edge (12B) is ground in, while at the same time the first cutting edge (12A) is sharpened at the cutting back (15A). <IMAGE>
