A device 10 for truing car bodies comprises a frame 11 and a truing table 12, which can be moved vertically in relation thereto, with releasable gripping means 13 for fastening the vehicle to the truing table. The novelty is a truing assembly 40 which is mounted slidably in a horizontal plane. The truing unit 40 comprises a frame 41 consisting of a first frame part 42 and, mounted slidably in relation to the latter, a second frame part 70, and force-exerting members 47, 60 for performing the truing work, both on the frame beams of the car and on the body structures of the latter, the truing forces being directable both horizontally and vertically. <IMAGE>
