A device for locking a steering mechanism which includes a key rotor (13) rotatable and axially movable in a cylinder (10), a rotatable lock cam (27) coupled to the key rotor (13) to control a lock member adapted to lock and unlock the steering mechanism, a movable regulating plate (29) in the lock cam normally protruding perpendicularly therefrom to prevent the lock cam (27) from turning from an unlock position to a lock position and a drive cam (36) for moving the regulating plate (29) when the key rotor is pushed in so as to allow the lock cam (27) to turn to the lock position.
