PURPOSE:To provide an excellent mirror-like reflecting function on the surface of an Al material by forming an underlying film for plating by chemical conversion treatment on the surface of the Al material and forming plural Ni electroplatings thereon then electroplating chromium thereon. CONSTITUTION:The surface of an Al material is degreased to remove the residual imprities thereof and after the surface is activated by the conventional method, an underlying film for plating is formed thereon by a chemical conversion treatment. Ni is then electroplated primarily and secondarily on the film. Chromium is electroplated on such plating layer to the thickness of about 60- 70% of the entire Ni layer. The specular surface having excellent brightness and a reflecting function is provided on the plating layer. This method is applicable to a wide range of products such as decorative wall surfaces, mirrors for bathrooms, etc. The specular surface has good resistance to wear and corrosion.
