PURPOSE:To provide a necessary part for brightness and a necessary part for contrast together by twisting the molecule orientation of liquid crystal by a specific angle and providing a polarizing plate which has its polarization direction in the orientation direction of one opposite oriented films outside a liquid crystal cell corresponding to part of the oriented film. CONSTITUTION:When a voltage is impressed between a transparent electrode 3a and a transparent electrode 3b to turn on a part A, liquid crystal 6 at the part A and molecules of dichroic coloring matter 5 are arranged vertically and incident light is transmitted through the part A to make a white display. Further, when the voltage is impressed between the transparent electrode 3a and a transparent electrode 3c to turn on a part B, liquid crystal 6 at the part B and molecules of the dichroic coloring matter 56 are arranged vertically and the incident light is polarized in a polarizing direction X by a polarizing plate 9 and then transmitted without being absorbed by the dichroic coloring matter 5 to make a white display. Thus, the part A of a liquid crystal display element 1 makes the same display with a normal PC type GH liquid crystal display element and the part B of the liquid crystal display element 1 makes the same display with a normal GH liquid crystal display element with a polarizing plate; and a bright display is obtained at the part A and a display with high contrast is obtained at the part B as mentioned above. |
