The invention concerns a lift with linear motor having, in addition to the actual car (2), a linear motor (4) to drive the lift, a rotor mounted in the lift shaft (1) which acts together with the linear motor, a drive for the linear motor based on frequency-converter technology, and a braking device (7, 8) for halting the car. The invention shows that one or more linear motors (4), whose rotor (6) consists of a stationary, lengthy member in the lift shaft (1), are permanently mounted to the structure of the car (2). <IMAGE>
