PURPOSE:To form a strong and thin shelf portion by the use of such a metal mold for vacuum forming wherein a reinforcing member is provided to bridge over the portion located at a shelf portion, without providing a rising portion there, and vacuum holes are provided at the position opposing to said reinforcing member. CONSTITUTION:A forming metal mold 17 has rising portions 18 on the opposing side surfaces and rising portions 20 on the bottom surface for forming the protruded portion on the back of a door. A reinforcing part 16 is bridged, by being placed in a groove 23 formed in a holding portion 21 provided at a specified height of each of said opposing rising portions 18. Further, in the forming metal mold 17, a tapered protruded portion 25 is formed on the surface opposing to said reinforcing part 16, and vacuum sucking holes 26 are provided in said protruded portion 25. A heated and softened sheet 14 is placed over the forming metal mold 17 and said sheet is caused to tightly adhere to the mold 17 by making a gap 34 vacuous. By this method, a strong and thin shelf portion can be obtained. |
