The hydraulic gear motor has two externally meshing gears (14, 15), against the lateral surfaces of which a sealing plate (26) lies. Two pressure fields (70, 71) are formed on the rear side of the sealing plate, which apply the sealing plate against the gear side faces, forming a seal. One of the pressure fields (70) is constantly acted upon from the high-pressure side, the second pressure field (71) only at times. Control is provided by a valve (56), which is controlled as a function of the return pressure and the dynamic pressure on a restrictor (48), so that a low pressure medium flow reaches this pressure field. This measure is important for the starting of the hydraulic gear motor, in which the pressure acting on the sealing plate must be low in a first phase but must subsequently increase. <IMAGE>
