PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity, gradation, graininess, and the like by processing a silver halide photographic sensitive material, after exposure, with a specified alkaline black-and-white developing solution. CONSTITUTION:The exposed silver halide photographic sensitive material is processed with the black-and-white developing solution comprising one of hydroquinones; a 3-pyrazolidone derivative developing agent; a dialdehyde derivative hardener; an antifoggant selected from a group consisting of indazoles, benzimidazoles, benzotriazoles, and the like; a compound selected from a group consisting of diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid, 1,3-diamino-2-propanol tetraacetic acid, ethylenediaminetetramethylene phosphoric acid, aminotrimethylenephosphonic acid, and the like, and their alkalimetal salts; a silver halide solvent; and a compound selected from a group consisting of sulfites, bisulfite, and metabisulfite.
