This method and this system for monitoring the consumption of liquid fuel in a heating installation comprising at least one burner B1 supplied with fuel from at least one fuel tank R1, are based on the analysis of the volume of fuel contained in the tank or tanks of the heating installation, and on a calculation of the fuel consumption by the heating installation as a function of the external temperature with respect to a base temperature, and as a function of coefficients depending on the heating installation itself. At the end of each fuel delivery, the volume VL of fuel delivered is calculated by the formula: VL = Vmax - Vmin + Co.DL + K (DJF - DJD), in which Vmax and Vmin are the volumes contained in the tank at the end and the start of the delivery, DL is the duration of the delivery, Co and K are consumption coefficients depending on the heating installation and DJF and DJD the values of degree days at the end and at the start of the delivery. Every 24 hours, the quantity CJ of fuel consumed is calculated by the formula CJ = VDJ + VLJ - VFJ, in which VDJ and VFJ are the values of the volume of fuel present in the tank at the start and at the end of the 24 hour period in question, and VLJ is the total volume of fuel delivered during the said period. <IMAGE>
