<p>PURPOSE:To increase the number of target bits, by varying the direction of transmission beam with each repetition of transmission while the direction of reception beam during the reception period is set for the transmission beam during the transmission period preceding the immediately previous transmission period adjacent to the reception period on the time base. CONSTITUTION:When a transmission pulse P1 is irradiated from an antenna 11, an echo pulse P1' reflected on the ground surface A is received at a reception time area T1 after a transmission pulse P3 is emanated. That is one or several (two herein) transmission pulses are emanated utilizing an unnecessary reception time area as associated with an unnecessary inspection area L while an echo pulse of the transmission pulse emanated previously is received. Corresponding to this operation, the direction of a scanning beam is, for example, set at theta1 to match the return time of the echo pulse of theta1 following the beam direction of theta3. This eliminates a loss due to a deviation in the beam while allowing increase in the number of bits when a target at the same distance is inspected.</p> |
