PURPOSE:To form a strong and tough magnetic layer and to improve the durability of a magnetic recording medium without exerting an adverse influence on the electromagnetic conversion characteristic, etc., thereof by using magnetic metallic powder which consists essentially of iron and contains manganese at >=0.1wt% with respect to the iron as a magnetic recording element. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic metallic powder to be used is preferably the powder which consists essentially of the iron and contains the manganese at >=0.1wt% with respect to the iron. Goethite solutionized with the manganese is formed by co-depositing iron ions and manganese ions or is formed by a method of depositing a manganese compd. on the surface of the goethite and reducing such goethite and the alpha-Fe2O3, etc. obtd. by reducing the goethite in gaseous hydrogen flow at the time of synthesizing the goethite which is the raw material for the magnetic metallic powder essentially consisting of the iron. The durability of the magnetic layer is not satisfactorily improved if the content of the manganese is lower than 0.1wt% with respect to the iron. |
